Data Scientist Job Profile
A Data Scientist uses statistical and mathematical techniques and computing to analyse raw data. This involves filtering and processing data to reach meaningful conclusions and interpretations and create solutions.
Data Scientists are recruited to address data analytics challenges within an organisation, by collecting large volumes of data from various sources, cleaning and interpreting this data, creating solutions to overcome challenges and communicating with all interested parties.
Data Scientist Job Requirements
To become a data scientist you need:
An MSc or PhD degree in Applied Mathematics or Statistics
At least five years of industry experience
Experience using data visualisation tools
Experience with data querying languages and mathematical and statistical software
Be proficient in writing algorithms and know when to apply them
Have an excellent understanding of statistics, multivariable calculus and linear algebra
Outstanding communication skills
